Production Stages

iOS Game Development

A clear process is one of the most important things for longevity of a future project. Every project moves through the stages it requires, and they are all unique depending on your particular request. Also, each step has fixed deliverables. With Fgfactory, you always know what is done and what is next.

Stage 1

Evaluation

Discovery and Scope Estimation

We start by studying your ideas, references, and business goals. Our producers and leads will take a look at the technical scope, flag risks, and prepare a rough cost and time estimate. This stage is free for you and gives you a realistic picture of what to expect.

Stage 2

Planning

Roadmap and Timeline Definition

We break the project into milestones with deliverables right after we discuss the scope with you. We approve deadlines and clients receive a roadmap showing what ships and when, plus a communication plan. So you will always know how the progress goes throughout production.

Stage 3

Pre-production

Concept, Design, and Prototyping

Before full production, we work on the fundamentals and rely on them later. That includes but is not limited to game design documents, core loop, concept art, and technical architecture. Through the playable prototype you can test the idea and core mechanics. That's the main stage for deciding the direction we will take.

Stage 4

Production

Art & Animation, Development

This is where the biggest part of custom iOS game development happens. Artists produce final assets and animations, and at the same time developers build features milestone by milestone. You receive regular playable builds, so you can test progress on your own device.

Stage 5

Testing

QA and Bug Fixing

QA is a part of production, and it always goes alongside it. Engineers test each build on real iPhones and iPads using different iOS versions. Before we release anything, a full regression pass confirms performance and stability. We also check if monetization works as it should be.

Stage 6

Launch

App Store Release Management

We prepare everything App Store Connect requires including certificates, provisioning, metadata, screenshots, privacy labels, and age ratings. We also submit the build ourselves, respond to Apple review feedback, and manage the rollout, checking everything we discussed with you.

Stage 7

Post-production

Updates and Feature Integration

After launch, we analyze player behavior and reviews to decide what should be the logical next step. Maybe those are new levels, features, or events. Since regular updates keep the game visible in the App Store we will take care of that.

Stage 8

Maintenance

Support and Performance Monitoring

We monitor crashes, performance, and server health, and keep the game compatible with each new iOS release and device generation. Even small issues won't get in the way, because we fix them right away. Maintenance can run as a monthly retainer or on-demand, whichever fits your budget.

Tech and platforms

Targeted Expertise

Our iPhone game development services are built on technologies we've used in production for years. There are game engines, art pipelines, and backend platforms proven across hundreds of shipped projects, so you can expect.

Game Engines

Unity Game Engine

Unity

It is our primary engine for iOS that has been used across most of our 2D and 3D projects.

JS Technologies

JS, PixiJS, ThreeJS

Web technologies for browser-based games that also run well inside iOS WebView apps.

Game Types

2D Games

We work with sprites, Spine animation, polished casual art and can do everything to complex puzzles.

3D Games

Full 3D production including modeling, rigging, animation, and optimization for mobile hardware limits.

Platforms

iOS Games

Native iOS builds optimized for iPhone and iPad, with Game Center, StoreKit, push notifications, and App Store release handled.

Android Games

We build for Android alongside iOS, so one project can cover these stores with a shared codebase.

Backend Infrastructure

AWS

For games that need serious backend infrastructure, we build on Amazon Web Services. You can expect player accounts, matchmaking, leaderboards, cloud saves, analytics and more. AWS advantage is in the fact that it can grow from a small launch to millions of players without re-architecture.

Firebase

Firebase covers a lot of mobile backend needs without a dedicated server team. You can see authentication, real-time databases, cloud saves, push notifications, remote config, and crash reporting. We've used it across many shipped projects (including live match-3 games) so integration is fast, and the setup is already tested.

There is no fixed cost because every project is different. The main thing affecting it is the scope of your game. A simple game with basic mechanics and minimal art might be in the $20,000–50,000 range. However, if your game’s type is more mild in terms of complexity, for example, a match-3 with meta progression and monetization, the cost will be around $50,000–150,000. Finally, 3D or multiplayer projects that are even more complex, require large budgets.

What usually drives the cost up is the amount of custom art and animation, and the number of features and game modes. You can also add to this list backend requirements (multiplayer, cloud saves, analytics).

As an iOS game development company, we start every project with a free evaluation. All you have to do is describe your idea, and we give you a scoped estimate including milestones. It will allow you to see how big a budget you require and where you can trim some requirements if you need to fit a specific sum of money invested in the game.

It depends on the game. Simple casual games take 2–4 months, while a bit bigger projects might require 4–8 months. Large and 3D titles and the most complex ones usually can not be finished fully until 8–12 months or more. Working on an existing game is a faster process, and it might take 1–3 months.

The amount of time can be measured the same way as cost. If you need more art, features, if backend complexity is higher, it will take more time. Another factor is the number of revisions – the more you need them in different stages of development, the more it will affect the price.

Our iPhone game development services are organized around milestones with playable builds, so you're never waiting months to see progress. If you have a hard deadline, for example, a marketing campaign, an event, a funding round, just let us know upfront, and we'll plan the scope around it.

Every project is different, and might include a different number of stages. If you are starting from scratch, your project would normally have eight stages starting from evaluation, where we study your idea and estimate scope and cost. Then goes planning, pre-production, production stage, testing, and launch. However, it is not the last stage. We also provide post-production and maintenance in order to help your project meet the goals we set upon the beginning of work.

Again, these stages and such a sequence is only relevant if your project really requires it. Some games need only one stage, some need a unique combination of steps or partial help. In any case, before we start working with you, the Fgfactory team determines what level of involvement you need and then provides it.

Unity is our main engine, and we worked with this engine on most of our iOS game development services. It is perfect for 2D and 3D and performs well on Apple hardware. Another big advantage is that it allows us to ship the same project to Android without changing the codebase.

We use JavaScript frameworks (PixiJS and ThreeJS) for browser games. They can also work inside iOS apps through WebView if you require it.

In the end, the deciding factor is your game. For example, a 3D racer, and an HTML5 marketing game can not be made with the same tools and require different approaches. That’s what we do during evaluation, recommending the stack that fits your genre and future platform plans.

Yes, we have worked and shipped 2D and 3D iOS games for years. When it comes to 2D titles, our portfolio has all the main types of games in this genre, including casual and hyper-casual titles, match-3 games, arcade games, and educational projects. Besides development, we provide full art production that includes sprites, tilesets, UI, and Spine animation.

As for 3D iOS games, we handle modeling, rigging, texturing, and animation, plus the optimization work important on mobile. We also make sure our games work well on older versions of iPhone, so our clients can aim at the bigger player base.

Our iOS game developers and artists work as one team, so everyone is on the same page regarding the style and technical side of the games. However, if you don’t know where your idea belongs, we can help you determine it on the evaluation stage. 2D is usually faster and cheaper to create, but some genres genuinely need 3D, and we'll tell you which one is your case.
